The
Air Quality Committee has been working with the Missoula County
Environmental Health Division to address the potential for air quality
non-attainment in Seeley Lake. A primary need is for the
community to better understand the new PM 2.5 air quality standards of
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and then create a plan to
address this potential issue. More specifically, the Air Quality
Committee is investigating how the community can work to stay in
compliance with the standards by understanding conditions that may
lead to non-attainment, developing recommendations for voluntary
actions to maintain air quality, developing a possible notification
system for actions on high-hazard days, and addressing problems with
non-efficient wood stoves and poorly weatherized homes. The first step
to assessing our situation is better monitoring of air quality,
including real-time monitoring capabilities. A real time air quality
monitor has now been provided by the State, with help from Missoula County
Environmental Health. The committee is also working to provide
information and education for the citizens of Seeley Lake as to how
they can help meet air quality standards and ensure healthy air for
everyone.
